Welcome to An Introduction to Arts Integration! 

This course is the result of a close collaboration between the LACMA Education Department and first-through-fifth-grade teachers at the Charles White Visual Arts LACMA Magnet School. LACMA Teaching Artists began working with Charles White teachers in 2020 to develop arts-integrated lessons that would engage and inspire the magnet school’s students. So far we have seen that arts integration does exactly that—it engages, inspires, and also supports broader academic goals. In this course, we’ll share our collective learning with you so that you can more easily integrate visual art in your classroom.

In this free online course, you will: 

• Learn what arts integration is and how it works
• Develop a ready-to-use, arts-integrated lesson plan 
• Identify arts and content standards that connect to your lesson objectives
• Learn how to engage students through object-based learning strategies
• Learn how to access and utilize LACMA resources
• Learn to create more enriching and meaningful lessons through visual arts integration
• Find joy and confidence in integrating the arts into your curriculum
